Grand G850 FAQs

The Grand G850 is priced at $228,300 (inc GST) as a fully optioned sail-away package. Included in that price is a Yamaha 350HP outboard with digital electric steering, a full electronics package (12″ Garmin chart plotter, Fusion RA670 stereo, Fusion 6 channel amplifier, 6x Fusion Apollo 7.7″ speakers, Garmin VHF and Scanstrut wireless phone charger), and all recommended features including an electric windlass anchor, electric toilet with holding tank, shower and water tank, sink and tap, wet bar with full-size bar fridge and freezer compartment, fibreglass T-top, and bow and stern canvas sun shades. The G850 can also be upgraded to have twin Yamaha 200HP outboards, which prices the package at $254,900.

The Grand G850 sail-away package at $228,300 is fitted with a Yamaha 350HP outboard with digital electric steering. For customers who prefer twin engine capability, the G850 can also be optioned with twin Yamaha 200HP outboards at $254,900, which also enables Yamaha HelmMaster EX joystick control technology for significantly easier manoeuvring in tight marina spaces.

Yes, and it is one of the only 8 metre RIBs on the market that can. The Grand G850 is most commonly fitted with twin Yamaha 200HP outboards, which also unlocks Yamaha HelmMaster EX joystick technology, giving single-handed fingertip control of throttle, shift and steering simultaneously. For many of our customers, twin engine capability is a key reason they choose the G850 over other boats in this size category.

The Grand G850 includes a fibreglass hard top as standard in the sail-away package, which provides full shade cover over the helm and console area. Also included are bow and stern sun shade canvas extensions which come out from the hard top and extend over the entire boat, meaning every passenger onboard is covered.

The Grand G850 sail-away package includes a full Garmin and Fusion electronics suite as standard: a 12″ Garmin chart plotter, Garmin VHF, Fusion RA670 stereo, Fusion 6 channel amplifier, 6x Fusion Apollo 7.7″ speakers and a Scanstrut Rokk wireless phone charger. The G850’s dashboard is a single large face plate that can be fully customised, with the option to add twin 12″ chart plotters for customers who want expanded navigation capability. Additional electronics including deck lights and transom lights can also be added to the package.

Yes. The Grand G850 holds CE Category B offshore certification, meaning it is independently rated to handle winds of up to 40 knots and seas of up to 4 metres. That rating is earned through hull design rather than just construction quality. The G850 runs a deep-V hull that sits higher in the water than most RIBs of this size, climbing onto the plane quickly and gliding cleanly rather than ploughing through conditions. The bow sits high out of the water for a drier, more comfortable ride, and extended transoms at the stern act like trim tabs, lifting the stern for a more balanced ride at speed. Spray is dispersed further to the rear of the vessel, keeping the deck and passengers dry underway. The centrally positioned console also means the boat is evenly balanced from side to side, which contributes to a more stable, predictable ride in chop and swell.

Grand is well known for hull design, and the G850 is a strong example of why. While underway, the hull sits higher in the water than most RIBs of this size, which means it planes cleanly and quickly rather than ploughing through the water as many RIBs can. This has a practical benefit beyond ride comfort: a hull that sits correctly reduces the stress on the tube-to-hull bond, which directly extends the lifespan of the tubes. The spray deflection is handled by a concave shape between the tube and the hull, which directs water downward and to the rear rather than up into the boat, creating a notably drier ride even in rougher conditions. Extended transoms at the stern act like built-in trim tabs, lifting the stern and maintaining a balanced, level ride at speed. Combined with the centrally positioned console, which distributes weight evenly across the beam, the G850 handles chop and swell with a composure that feels more like a much larger vessel.

The Grand G850 is a more spacious, more refined and more comprehensively equipped boat than the Brig Eagle 8, and the differences are immediately apparent when you stand in both.

The most significant difference is interior space. The G850’s console is centrally positioned and notably narrower than the Eagle 8’s, meaning you can walk freely down both sides without the console encroaching on the deck area. At the helm, the G850’s windscreen provides excellent protection from the elements, and the single large dashboard face plate is fully customisable, with the option to run twin 12″ chart plotters if you want them. The Brig’s layout restricts movement to one side and the dashboard feels considerably more dated by comparison. The offset helm on the Brig has also been known to make the ride feel less balanced while underway at speed.

Seating is another clear difference. All seating on the G850 is forward-facing, including at the stern, which means passengers are comfortable underway rather than sitting backwards. At the stern, U-shaped seating means 5 – 6 adults ca comfortably sit around the removable table for a meal. The bow sun bed on the G850 is large enough for two to three people to lie out on without needing an infill cushion, which is not the case on the Eagle 8.

The G850’s toilet compartment has been intentionally designed to be easier to use. You walk down into it the toilet compartment with full headroom overhead, rather than having to squeeze through a small side door as the Eagle 8 requires.

On amenities, the G850 includes a full-size bar fridge with freezer compartment rather than a drawer fridge, which means you do not need an esky onboard. There is also a sink and space for a stove or BBQ, which the Eagle 8 does not offer.

The fuel filler on the G850 is located at the stern of the boat, which makes filling up at a petrol station or marina fuel dock straightforward and safe. On the Brig Eagle 8, the fuel filler is positioned at the helm, which means fuel fumes can enter the boat during filling and there is a risk of fuel spillage internally. For passengers onboard, the G850’s arrangement is noticeably more comfortable and safer.

Finally, the G850’s fibreglass construction reflects Grand’s design philosophy of negative angles and clean, angular lines throughout, all of which are hand-moulded and take time. The result is a boat that looks sleek and refined at the boat ramp and holds that aesthetic over time. The Eagle 8’s use of flat lines and conventional angles is a noticeably more traditional and dated approach by comparison.

The Grand G850 is our 8.5 metre flagship leisure RIB, and the G980 is our 10 metre flagship. Both are highly specified with an electric anchor, wet bar and entertaining area, electric toilet and large sun beds. The key difference is that the G980 adds a large double berth cabin, making it suitable for overnight stays onboard – and also providing a place for young kids to relax or sleep while out on the water for a long day. The G850 is the right choice for families and groups who want a premium, fully equipped boat for extended days on the water with friends and family. The G980 is for those who want all of that plus the ability to stay onboard, with more room for additional passengers and comfortable entertaining for upwards of 14 people.

Yes, the Grand G850 is well suited to superyacht tender use. Its centrally positioned console and walkaround deck layout give passengers unobstructed movement around the entire boat, with seating for 10 to 12 people while underway. All stern seating is forward-facing, which makes for a significantly more comfortable ride for passengers compared to rearward facing configurations common on other RIBs. The fibreglass hard top and canvas sun shade extensions provide full sun protection for everyone onboard, while the full-size bar fridge, sink and tap, electric toilet and cooktop area mean passenger comfort is covered for extended transfers. Twin engine capability with Yamaha HelmMaster EX joystick technology makes manoeuvring in tight marina and yacht anchorage environments straightforward, even single-handed.

Grand Inflatable Boats hold their value well. They are manufactured in Kharkiv, Ukraine, the same city as Brig, using the exact same quality materials and to the same build standard, so there is no inherent reason resale should differ materially from an equivalent Brig of the same age and condition.

Dan Arscott, Grand Boats Australia’s Managing Director, represented Grand Boats in the UK for ten years before bringing the brand to Australia. In that market, where Grand has a significantly longer history, second-hand Grand RIBs have consistently sold at prices comparable to equivalent Brig models of the same age and condition, reflecting the parity in build quality between the two brands.

In Australia, Grand’s second-hand market is still in its early stages. If you were to sell a Grand G850 today, there are very few on the second-hand market, which works strongly in a seller’s favour. That will change over time as our growing Australian customer base continues to grow year and year. Grand has sold a significant number of boats over the last two years, and as owners trade up to larger models, more Grands will enter the second-hand market. The G850 in particular is a common trade-up destination for Grand G680 owners, which means demand for used G850s is being built from within Grand’s own existing owner base, not just from new buyers to the brand.

The second-hand Brig market by contrast is well established and heavily supplied, meaning buyers have considerable choice and prices reflect that volume. As Grand’s presence in Australia grows to a comparable scale, we expect our resale values to reflect what we already see in more established markets: strong, consistent pricing that mirrors Brig equivalents of the same age and condition.
