Grand G980 FAQs
How much does the Grand G980 cost?
The Grand G980 is priced at AUD$433,300 (inc GST) sail-away as a fully optioned package, with nothing further needed. Included in that price are twin Yamaha 350HP outboards with Yamaha HelmMaster EX joystick control, a Sleipner bow thruster fitted at the factory, and a full electronics package including twin 16″ Garmin chart plotters, Garmin VHF, Fusion RA670 stereo, Fusion 6 channel amplifier, 6x Fusion Apollo 7.7″ speakers and a Scanstrut wireless phone charger. The package also includes all recommended features: electric windlass anchor, electric toilet with holding tank, double berth cabin, shower and water tank, sink and tap, gas cooker, wet bar with full-size bar fridge and freezer compartment, fibreglass T-top, and bow and stern canvas sun shades.
What electronics come with the Grand G980?
The Grand G980 sail-away package includes a full Garmin and Fusion electronics suite as standard: x2 16″ Garmin chart plotter, Garmin VHF, Fusion RA670 stereo, Fusion 6 channel amplifier, 6x Fusion Apollo 7.7″ speakers and a Scanstrut Rokk wireless phone charger. The boat also has an electric windlass anchor, Yamaha HelmMaster EX Joystick system, Sleipner bow thruster and transom lights. Additional electronics including deck lights and solar panels can also be added to the package.
What outboard engines does the Grand G980 come with?
The Grand G980 comes fitted with twin Yamaha 350HP outboards as standard in the sail-away package. Combined with the Yamaha HelmMaster EX joystick control system, the twin engine configuration gives single-handed fingertip control of throttle, shift and steering simultaneously, making manoeuvring in tight marina and anchorage environments significantly easier. The G980 has recorded top speeds of 58 knots with this engine configuration.
Can you do tow sports with the Grand G980?
Yes. The Grand G980 has integrated tow points at the stern, intentionally positioned for tow sports including wakeboarding and waterskiing. The twin 350HP Yamaha outboards provide more than enough power for towing, and the configurable stern seating area means the deck layout can be adjusted to suit however many passengers you have onboard, with a rear-facing seat for watching water skiiers and wakeboarders.
Is there a toilet on the Grand G980?
Yes. The Grand G980 has an electric marine toilet located in the cabin, complete with a freshwater holding tank and a blackwater tank. The toilet compartment is accessed from within the cabin and has full standing headroom, making it genuinely comfortable to use rather than the confined experience common on boats of this type.
Can you sleep onboard the Grand G980?
Yes. The Grand G980 includes a double berth cabin as standard. The cabin has a configurable internal layout, giving you the option of twin single beds or a double bed depending on your preference. Access is through a full-size door that opens upward, allowing you to step down into the cabin without bending, and the interior has over 2 metres of headroom, meaning you can stand comfortably inside. The cabin is well ventilated with fly screens fitted on the windows, which also have privacy covers. Internal lighting comes from multiple windows throughout and internal light fittings, and there is generous storage underneath all of the bed areas. It is comfortably sized for two adults to sleep in without feeling cramped.
What shade options does the Grand G980 offer?
The Grand G980 comes with a large fibreglass hard top as standard, which covers the entirety of the helm and console area. Bow and stern sun shade canvas extensions come out from the hard top and cover the full length of the boat, meaning every passenger onboard can be in shade regardless of where they are sitting. The combination of the hard top and canvas extensions means the G980 can be used comfortably throughout the full day in Australian conditions.
How does the Grand G980 compare to the Brig Eagle 10?
The Grand G980 and Brig Eagle 10 are two of the most capable premium 10 metre RIBs available in Australia, and are closely matched on price; where they differ is in hull technology, package inclusions, and design philosophy
The most significant difference is the hull. The G980 runs a twin-stepped deep-V fibreglass hull rather than the Eagle 10’s conventional deep-V. A stepped hull draws air underneath as the boat planes, reducing drag and making the boat faster, drier and more fuel efficient at speed. The G980 has recorded top speeds of 58 knots with twin 350HP Yamahas and carries a 600-litre fuel tank, giving it the range for serious offshore and extended coastal passages without needing to refuel. If performance and efficiency over distance matter to you, the Grand G980’s hull is the stronger design.
The G980 comes with a Sleipner bow thruster fitted at the factory as standard, included in the package price, alongside Yamaha HelmMaster EX joystick control. For a 10 metre twin engine boat, the combination of joystick and bow thruster makes manoeuvring in tight marina and anchorage environments significantly more manageable.
Both boats have a centrally positioned helm and walkaround deck layout. The G980’s console is narrower however, opening up more usable deck space on both sides. The stern entertaining area on the G980 is also fully configurable, with seats that flip to sun beds, side seats that convert into a dining area for eight or more people, and a layout that adapts to however many passengers are onboard and whatever they want to do.
Both boats have a double berth cabin. The G980 is accessed through a full-size door that opens upward, allowing you to step down comfortably, while the Eagle 10 requires entry through a smaller side door, which has been noted by customers to be slightly more restrictive. Inside the G980 there is over 2 metres of headroom, multiple windows with privacy covers, fly screens, and generous storage under all bed areas.
On practical details, the G980’s fuel filler is at the stern, keeping fuel fumes away from passengers during filling, while the Eagle 10’s fuel filler is inside the boat. The G980 also has tube-mounted bow railings and railings at every touch point throughout the boat, recessed cleats throughout the deck, a flush-integrated swimming ladder (so your feet dont catch) and deep storage lockers that make full use of the hull space.
On design, the G980’s hand-moulded negative angles and clean angular fibreglass styling is a more contemporary and refined finish than the Eagle 10’s conventional flat lines.
Both boats at a similar price point in Australia, but the Grand G980 does come with more options as standard in the package. Ultimately, both the Grand G980 and Brig Eagle 10 are serious boats at a similar price point, and the choice often comes down to personal preference. If you value contemporary styling, a more technically advanced hull and a modernised internal layout, the G980 is the stronger boat. If you are already familiar with the Brig brand and its more utilitarian aesthetic suits you, the Eagle 10 is a well-proven option. We would always recommend getting on both boats before making a decision at this price point.
How fast is the Grand G980?
The Grand G980 has recorded top speeds of 58 knots fitted with twin Yamaha 350HP outboards, a full tank of fuel and four passengers. Top speed will vary depending on passenger load, fuel quantity and sea conditions. The G980’s twin-stepped deep-V hull design contributes significantly to its speed capability: the stepped hull draws air underneath as the boat planes, reducing drag and allowing the boat to reach higher speeds more efficiently than a conventional deep-V hull of the same size.
