Grand Inflatable Boats | Frequently Asked Questions
What is a rigid inflatable boat (RIB)?
‘RIB’ or ‘RHIB’ stands for ‘Rigid hull inflatable boat’. These boats – and Grand inflatable boats in particular – are characterised by their inflatable tubes (typically made of pvc or hypalon material), as well as their medium-V or deep-V bottom hull, which make for an incredibly improved seaworthiness.
What are the advantages of a RIB boat?
There are numerous design benefits that make RIBs – including our Grand inflatable boats – extremely competent and beneficial boats. With multi-chamber inflatable tubes that almost double the boat’s width, rigid inflatable boats have remarkable buoyancy volume and enhanced stability, making it incredibly safe and comfortable for passengers on the water. The deep-v bottom hull of these Grand inflatable boats also improve their stability in the water. The main body materials of Grand inflatable boats are also lightweight and flexible, making the boat’s portability, storage ability and transportation easier than ever. Read more about the advantages of rigid inflatable boats.
Are RIB boats safe?
Safety goes into every design consideration here at Grand Inflatable Boats. Rigid inflatable boats especially offer unparalleled safety thanks to their design and in many ways are safer than other conventional hard-hull boats. With inflatable tubes that enhance the boat’s stability, buoyancy, and seaworthiness, passengers can feel more comfortable at sea. However, as with all boating, it is vital that passengers take care to have appropriate safety measures on board – including life vests and kill cords – to ensure that your boating experience is as safe as it can be.
What are rigid inflatable boats used for?
Thanks to their stable, seaworthy and practical design, rigid inflatable boats are used across a number of different activities. Individuals use Grand inflatable boats for yacht tenders (thanks to their stylish but lightweight design), as well as for recreational family boating (thanks to the spacious layout and enhanced safety and stability), and for activities such as fishing, waterskiing, wakeboarding and diving. Rigid hull inflatable boats are often used for commerical boating as well as across military and rescue too. Our D950 in particular serves well for commercial usage, working well as a taxi RIB, or for fishing and diving usage too.
How strong are rigid inflatable boats?
By the very nature of their design, rigid inflatable boats are very tough and strong boats which is why they are often seen used for deep sea rescue and military craft worldwide. The more recreational leisure RIBs, such as the premium boats manufactured at Grand, are equally tough thanks to the quality, world-class materials used across both the fibreglass hulls and good quality inflatable tubes.
To ensure the maximum air tightness, our high quality inflatable tubes typically consist of 5 layers: one central internal layer (polyester cloth base made of strong synthetic fabric), two internal layers (coated with airtight flexible material with a high adhesion level), two external layers (coated with airtight flexible material, which opposes the abrasion and increases UV resistance and air tightness).
At Grand Inflatable Boats, our tube materials are typically hypalon combined with neoprene, which has an excelled chemical resistance and endurance against UV-rays, and is more stable, long-lasting and resistant compared to PVC. This material combination is especially popular for recreational RIB boats that are being used in regions with hot climates.
