Here at Grand Boats, all of our rigid inflatable boats sized 5.8 metres and above have all been designed as centre console boats. The central console deck layout of these boats is intentional. With the helm at the centre of the boat, passengers can move more freely and comfortably around the boat. The driver also has a more central view of what is ahead of them, giving them better visibility as they drive the boat and come into moor the boat.
Our range of fibreglass central console boats for sale make great options as family boats and fishing boats, thanks to the larger space that the central positioning of the helm offers. What makes a boat a centre console?
A centre console boat is defined by the central positioning of the helm within the boat’s deck. This creates space for passage on both sides of the helm. Offset console boats, by contrast, have a helm that is set off to one side of the boat, limiting passage to one side of the boat.
What is the benefit of a centre console boat?
There are numerous benefits to centre console boats, whether you are using your boat for fishing, wakeboarding, cruising or general use. Because the helm console is set centrally, centre console boats enable passengers on board to move freely around both sides of the helm. This makes it much more comfortable if you’re using the boat with family, for instance, as young passengers can more safely move about, as well as if you use the boat for fishing – enabling you to move up and down the vessel quickly as needed.
For the driver or captain on board, they will enjoy a more central view of what is ahead of them as they drive their boat and come into a mooring.
When it comes to mooring up, anchoring or coming alongside, your passengers can more easily get out onto without having to side step the offset console and driver.
How many people fit on a centre console boat?
The number of people that can fit comfortably and safely on a centre console boat will depend on the size of the boat and what it has been certified to have. Our rigid inflatable centre console boats start at 5.8 metres (fitting 9 people on board), and go up to 8.5 metres in length (capable of fitting 16 passengers on board).
